Sporting Challenge

It is wonderful to hear that lots of you are keeping active while you are staying safe at home. Riley, in Year 6, set himself a challenge; he wanted to try and improve how many keep ups he could do in one go. He set himself his very own ‘be the best you can be’ challenge. His first attempt was 6 (which is more than I can do!), he continued to carry on practising to increase the amount he could do without letting the ball touch the floor. So the next time he was able to do 15, then 17, then 21 and his latest score is 25! Wow – 25 is fantastic Riley.

Here is Riley achieving 15 keep ups before he went on to do a huge 25!

Can you challenge yourself to your own ‘Be the best you can be’? Maybe you want to try Riley’s challenge or think of your very own challenge.

Here are some ideas.

How many skips with a skipping rope without stopping?

How many keep ups with a tennis ball and racket?

How many times can you throw a ball against a wall and catching it?

You can send in photos or videos of your success to let us know how you have got on – we would love to hear from you. Good luck everyone!

Remember it all about improving your own score – try and beat yourself!

Fantastic Football

What a wonderful week our school footballers have had! Despite the weather trying its hardest to stop us, our footballers from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 have played amazingly all week.

The children train every Monday after school to understand the game, learn new skills and enjoy playing the game of football.

Monday- Year 5 and 6 Boys.

Our Year 5 and 6 team have had lots of experiences this year playing together as a team and we have watched them progress and improve over the year. On Monday they continued their brilliant teamwork by competing in the tournament and coming 3rd overall. Well done boys!

Wednesday Year 5 and 6 Girls

On Wednesday, the weather did not put the girls off at all. Their enthusiasm to play was outstanding. For some of our players, this was their first time playing in a competitive game. Their team work and support to each other was wonderful to see. Well done girls.

Thursday -Year 3 and 4 Girls

Another outstanding performance by the girls. Again, this was some of the girls first time taking part in a football match. The girls took part in 5 matches all together and fantastically finished in 2nd place. Well done girls.

Friday – Year 3 and 4 Boys and Year 5 and 6 Boys

Tonight the boys took part in a friendly competition where they had the chance to experience playing against children from other schools was like. The boys enthusiasm and excitement to play was brilliant. A great start to some of our children’s football experiences at Rushall. Well done to all of you boys!!

Thank you to Mrs Binks and Mrs Bird who have trained the children over the last year and helped them to be the best the can be. The children have all grown in confidence immensely. Who knows, we may have footballers of the future! Thank you to all parents, guardians, grand parents and other family members who have been able to support the children (in the rain!), transport them to and from the events and for giving the children the opportunity to play in these tournaments.

Keep up the hard work everyone.

Swimming Superstars

A huge congratulations to two of our amazing swimmers.  Faith and Riley were asked to represent the Shelfield cluster in the Swimming Final.  Along with other representatives from other schools they swam in both individual and team races.  Faith swam the Butterfly heat for the girls race and Riley the Backstroke for the boys.  The team competed against teams from the Streetly and Willenhall clusters.  After all the individual races the scores were so close between Streetly A and Shelfield – there was 1 point between them.

All that was left were the 4 team relay races.  The Shelfield team managed to win all four relay races which meant overall they won the whole competition.

They are now Walsall Swimming Champions 2019.

Congratulations Faith and Riley.

From running races to skipping races, jumping races to balancing races, individual races to team races and children’s races to adult’s races! The children competed individually but also gained points for their reward teams. Congratulations to the winning teams.

Football at Walsall Football Club

Yesterday, our Year 5 and 6 football team went along to The Banks’ Stadium in Walsall to take part in a tournament with other local primary schools. There were 8 other schools in total and each team played a 10 minute match against each other.

The weather conditions were really tricky as the wind was quite strong and it was very cold.

In the 8 matches that ‘Team Rushall’ played, they won 5, drew 1 and lost 2. A fantastic effort by all of the players and a huge improvement from their last tournament! The team train on a Monday night after school with Mrs Binks and Mrs Bird. We are very proud of all of you!

Well done to Luke, Dominic, Kheelan, Charlie, Luke, Alfie, Riley and Oliver.

Swimming Gala

Yesterday afternoon, a team of our swimmers went to Bloxwich Active Living Centre to take part in the annual local Swimming Gala along with 8 other schools. Each swimmer competed in their own individual race of a certain stroke and then they worked as a team to race in the two relay races. Riley and Erin swam back stroke, Luke and Grace swam breast stroke, Alfie and Faith swam Butterfly and Kheelan and Savannah swam freestyle.

The effort and determination that they all put in was outstanding. Our girls team finished second overall which was fantastic! We are waiting to hear if any of our swimmers get through individually to the Walsall finals.

Watch this space for the announcements!

We are very proud of you all – well done!

A huge well done to our two dodgeball teams who took part in the competition held at Shelfield Academy last night.

The children played fabulously!  Developing their throwing and catching skills and learning to play a more tactical game.  They were great sports and played superbly as a team!

Well done to Luke, Kheelan, Dominic, Abigail, Erin, Jayvon, Alfie, Matthew, Eleanor, Maisy and Katie.

Even more Archers!

We have restarted our Archery club after the Christmas break.  More children have now expressed their interest in the club it is amazing that the club has now doubled in size.

The light is still a barrier for us to take part outdoors and the temperatures are very low but these will not stop us from improving our new skills.  We will continue to enhance our techniques ready for when we are able to return to the field .

Archery has arrived at Rushall!

We are very excited to announce that we have began our very own Archery club at school.  We have had our first after school club this evening.  The children have learnt how to set up the Archery range this evening following all the health and safety rules to ensure we stay safe using the equipment.

After we were all set up, the children were given a detailed demonstration of all the steps they needed to follow in order to perfect their aim.  The children all did really well for their first week. Each one has been able to improve their technique just on the first session.  Here are a few pictures of their first lesson.

Would you like to take part in our Archery club?

Cross Country – Round 2

Last night, our cross country runners travelled to Cooper and Jordan Primary School to take part in the next race.  There were more schools taking part this week, which meant that the competition was tough!

Well done to Erin in Year 6, who was our first finisher in the girls race and Jack in Year 4, who was our first finisher in the boys race.

Congratulations to all of the children for taking part, Kieran, Charlie, Erin, Madiha, Lucas, Arian, Matthew, Riley, Alfie M, Rene and Jack.
